One day of diving done. We had to postpone the 2nd day as we were both too exhausted from the 3 dives and the lack of sleep. Had a really cool time, it was amazing to be back at Swanage near-drowning in the chop and totally incapable of getting my fat arse and my kit out of the water by myself. I’d forgotten what a weakling and crap diver I am sometimes.
Turns out that due to a slight fuck up when I first joined, my Elementary group had only had 59 lessons and not the mandatory 60, so after saying goodbye to them all 2 weeks ago, I had to teach them again today! Very odd.
Tonight, I have tutorials with my high level group and then I”m going out for a drink or six with them… Have to be careful though because…..
….. I’M FLYING HOME TOMORROW FOR EASTER!!! I am so incredibly happy about this I can’t tell you!! I haven’t been home since Christmas. It’s been almost 4 months since I saw my family and the cats etc… It’s not going to be much time spent at home as I’m diving with Jason for my Advanced certificate on Friday and Saturday, and I get back home Sunday morning for Easter sunday and monday, then I fly back to Poland on Tuesday for 2 weeks. (then home for good)
I just have to keep my fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly tomorrow. My flying buddy, the lead passenger, is ill with flu, so I have to hope he can fly. If not, I have to hope I can still get on the Ryanair plane even though I’m not the main passenger or credit card holder… fingers crossed for me please!! Will blog again if I get back safely.
Did I mention how much I HATE flying? ![]()
Apparently, Polish people assume that English people all stop everything they’re doing at 5pm each afternoon in order to drink tea.
As a result - when I went out with my Elementary students on Friday night, they bought me a mug with a print of ‘Torun’ on it. Also.. a book of Torun, with an almost perfectly constructed sentence which was very very poignant and sweet, which they all signed.
My False Beginner group bought me a bunch of flowers and a Zubrowka gift pack with a bottle of Zubrowka, two glasses (with lines to show where to pour the vodka and where to pour the apple) and a carton of apple juice… They also got me a tin box full of pierniki (Torun-made gingerbread) which you can put a candle in and it shines light through holes in the tin. They said some very sweet things to me and are clearly disappointed to know I’m not going to be teaching them next year, and that is the biggest confidence boost any new teacher could ask for, I think
Anyway… it was quite emotional saying goodbye to both groups
I’m still teaching Pre-FCE for another week and a half, and all my Absolute Beginners til 25th April (urrrgh). Home for easter in a week and 4 days though
Diving for my advanced cert with Jason! woo!
