Not much to report really. It’s been a pretty relaxed couple of weeks, a few days off followed by registration week which is extremely low-impact work, just interviewing students and putting them in the right level class.
Haven’t got much to say really… Had a few calls from Josh the last week or two which has been really nice, but we are inevitably cut off by the shit phone line or dodgy skype connection. Frustrating, as I really like speaking to him
Have begun (as in, done it once) a weekly ‘pool’ night with my buddy Kat - we both observed that we *used* to be quite good at pool in our teen years (mis-spent youth etc) but now that we’re all grown up it’s kind of gone by the wayside (what with having a job and all that crap!) so…. we decided to dust off the cues and go down to 50th Street each Wednesday night for a beer and several games of pool to try to improve our lost skills! Last week was promising for me, with a 5 game lead, but the Kat caught me up. I pipped her at the end with 7-5, but we are pretty much exactly the same standard which makes playing pool with her really enjoyable. Nothing worse than playing against somebody who you KNOW is definitely gonna win or definitely gonna lose. Much rather have a challenge
And there was a pretty huge coincidence at the weekend too; You know you’re living in a small expat community when… you end up sitting in the boot of your mate’s car, next to the bloke who flew your plane back from Bangkok 5 days before! Somehow I managed to meet and eventually identify ‘Fernandez’ as the pilot who flew my Air Bagan plane back from Bangkok on Monday morning. I had noticed the captain hadn’t had a Myanmar accent and I asked the stewardess what nationality he was. She didn’t know but she went to ask him and came back to me later on and told me he was Portuguese. So of course when I met Fernandez who told me he was a Portuguese pilot for Air Bagan, I asked if he’d been approached by a stewardess on Monday asking his nationality and he said yes. Bizarre!! Nice enough guy but doesn’t seem to be able to talk about anything other than planes. Good job I know my Fokkers from my Boeings, huh?!?
New term began this week… fortunately it’s only 6 weeks until we have a 2 week holiday and then I’m going HOOOOME!!! Can’t wait. Looks like I will have a visitor in September too, but at the moment I am still wondering whether Josh will surprise me and agree to come to London in August when I’m at home. That would really make my year.
Still addicted to Facebook…..
Oh and tomorrow, Annabel and I are going to our first Taekwondo class!!!
